Sightings By Year
The busiest years were 2023 and 2025, with 22 sightings each. The quietest full year was 2016, with 3 sightings.
What I Was Carrying
Each dot is one sighting, placed on the year it happened. The archive doubles as a record of my consumer camera history.
The phone camera caught 175 of the 332 sightings, more than half, starting in 2008. The archive began with 35mm film, in 2002.
Keywords
The most common keyword is Games, on 34 sightings, followed by Time (30) and Movie/TV (28).
The Longest Droughts
The longest wait between sightings was 319 days, from August 17, 2004 to July 2, 2005. Most waits are short: half of them were 14 days or less.
Every Day Of The Year
Each sighting on its month and day, every year folded together.
Written the American way, 210 is a date: 2/10, February 10. The number has turned up on its own date three times, in 2004, 2009 and 2010. July 13 holds the most, six, five of them on one day in 2003.
Where It Happened
Every sighting on a map. Pinch to zoom and move with two fingers, or hold ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) and scroll, then drag with a mouse.
The map holds 193 sightings, from Inch, Ireland in the far north to Puerto Natales, Chile in the far south.

The Weekend
Weekends hold 128 of the 332 sightings, 39%, though a weekend is only two days in seven. Sunday is the busiest day, with 66; Friday is the quietest, with 32.
To The Moon
A straight line from each sighting to the next. Scroll, and travel it one sighting at a time.
0 miles
Drawn straight from each sighting to the next, the line runs 244,861 miles, already past the Moon, 238,855 miles away.
Download The Data
Every sighting as a table: date, place, coordinates, capture medium, keywords, and the days since the one before. Off-screen captures carry no place.

How the number showed up: as a time, a measure, a price, a number in a circle, charted across the years. A photograph can carry several keywords at once, so it can appear in more than one row.

Cloudflare hosts the site, so it sees each request the way any host would. The typefaces are served from this domain rather than from Google.
The one exception is the map on the Data page, which is Google's. Opening that page asks Google for the map and for the fonts that label its streets, so Google receives your IP address and the usual details a browser sends, as it does from any site that shows a Google map. What Google does with that request is covered by Google's privacy policy. No other page on this site contacts Google.
gle.If you write to the address in the footer, that mail reaches a personal inbox and is read by one person. It is not added to a list and there is no list to be added to.
Nothing Filed Under That.
The address you asked for isn’t in the archive. It may have been a typo, or a link to a sighting that has since been renumbered.
